Day 105 - 8th July 2007

It was the Church Stretton food festival today and I was playing my tuba there. This was a bit of a strange event, Church Stretton is only a small place and we were surprised to find a £2 fee for parking! This was a flawed concept because if you parked on the street, about 1/2 a mile closer to the event, then you didn't pay a penny!
After lugging my Tuba all the way to the 'event arena' (if you're not into this kind of village stuff, that means 'field') I found that there was an extra charge of £5 to get in! I had a musician's pass so I got in free, and I was wondering about the remaining three members of my family; we just made up some excuse about it being necessary to go in with me. Hey presto, £15 saved!
The actual thing was basically a big field with loads of tents up selling food. It was quite a jolly day, BBC Radio Shropshire were there, doing gardener's question time and I even met Laurel and Hardy. I was actually half expecting Inspector Barnaby to come along any second. If you see him at such an event, run away; there's going to be a murder soon! The weather held off and the concert went well.
Today was also Lewis Hamilton's first Silverstone grand prix, he came third; a good result, but McLaren seemed to be off the pace today. He still hasn't been off the podium in his whole F1 career yet though, plus he's still leading the championship by quite some margin. Alonso came second and Kimi won, he had a great race.
Let's not forget that it was the Wimbledon men's final too. This somehow finished on time, the final being Federer vs. Nadal; as expected Federer won for the fifth time in a row, it did go down to five sets though. I can't help thinking it would have been three if Nadal's match hadn't been cancelled yesterday, he did seem a bit fresher than Federer. Not fresh enough though, it was a truly brilliant game and the best man clearly won.
Back to work tomorrow, how lovely.
