Day 990 – 9th December 2009

Day 990

I went back to the top of the hill to watch the sunset today. That, however, was the bright light in an otherwise crap day. I’ve got a list of things to do, and it’s not getting any smaller.

First up on the list was getting new gas bottles. Two have run out, and I needed to swap them for two fresh ones. So, I went to the petrol station – nothing there. I went to another petrol station – wrong sort of canister. I went to the supermarket – can’t find the keys to the gas bottles, manager not in. I went to the Repsol (the petrol company that does the gas bottles) office in the port, where they said to go to another petrol station.

That petrol station no longer sells the bottles I need, but they were very helpful and gave me some advice. Sadly, that advice, although true, only made my day worse. What you have to do is drive down a road and hope that the official repsol lorry carrying the gas bottles has parked along it, it’s always the same road, which is a good start.

However as I soon found out, the lorry doesn’t always stop – I had to somehow track him down along the six mile road and hope he stopped somewhere I could catch him. This wasn’t easy, but I noticed another few cars along side me having the same trouble so I felt reassured that someone else was sharing my pain, and that not everyone in this country agrees that this is the normal way of doing things.

All in all, it took me three hours. What’s worse is I think the bottle under the cooker is about to run out…
