I don’t talk much about football, not every week anyway, but today was a momentous occasion in the history of Stoke City. They beat Arsenal 3-1 in the FA cup!
I would joke about it being miraculous, and how they somehow managed this feat, but the truth is quite satisfying – they actually played well and won. It’s no fairytale, no one was robbed, there was no ridiculous extra time, just a straight win.
The people at the bar downstairs kindly switched ITV on for me, but I was alone in the whole place. It’s a bizarre feeling watching the football in utter silence, the bartender’s eyes fixed on your drink poised to offer you a refill – they clearly don’t get much business at this time of year…
Anyway, well done to Stoke – in all my days of supporting them that’s the first time I’ve ever actually seen them score live on TV. Someone did point out that the only time they would appear on TV is when they come up against big sides like Arsenal – fair point.
