Day 1054 – 11th February 2010

Day 1054

That, ladies and gentlemen, is snow on the ground.

Apologies for the awful picture, but it’s only started coming down in the dark and the wind’s too strong to stabilise the camera, even on the tripod. I’m sure you get the idea though.

Now, to those of you back in the UK, I realise that this is nothing new, but I’m sure you’ll understand that here this is big news. Some people I have spoken to have never seen snow until today.

You might have guessed from this that we’re going through a cold snap – and it is cold. It’s been about 4 degrees all day, which is bearable, but then the wind came and brought everything to well below freezing. I was walking down the street when my phone rang, by the time I hung up my hand was purple!

People are freaking out right now. I can hear people screaming ‘blanco! blanco!’ down their mobiles. It’s rare but I didn’t think it was that exciting – especially since it’s more sleet than snow…
